The Artist

László Mácsai creates unique pottery pieces ranging from bonsai pots to functional kitchenwares and decorative ceramics. Each piece is handcrafted with careful attention to traditional firing techniques and glaze applications.

The Process

Every piece begins with carefully selected clay, shaped on the pottery wheel or hand-built depending on the design. The work is fired using various techniques including wood-salt firing at cone 10 and gas reduction firing at cone 8, creating unique surface effects and color variations.

Materials & Techniques

Working primarily with stoneware and specialized glazes like shino, László explores the unpredictable beauty of high-temperature firing. The interplay between thick glaze application, firing atmosphere, and kiln placement creates one-of-a-kind surfaces - from crawling patterns in shino to carbon spots and pinkish flashing from reduction atmospheres.
